WIf Erhard Seifried didn’t know his way around antibody research so well, maybe the announcement by American President Donald Trump would have given him a brief moment of relief. But Seifried, director of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology, does not allow himself to be blinded by statements that are not based on facts. And so Trump’s statements that he had been given a “cure” for Corona were at best worth a tired sigh. After his corona infection, Trump announced that he wanted to make this “cure” available to all Americans who were sick.

The preparation he received is a corona antibody drug from the American biotech company Regeneron. The drug, which is based on synthetically produced antibodies, has not yet received marketing approval. Trump’s full-bodied announcement is “a false promise that is not based on reality,” warns Seifried of excessive expectations.
