NBlack, it sports white stripes on the body and a longitudinal white line in the central position on the thorax as well as white rings on the legs. Which earned him his nickname of tiger mosquito. Generally not exceeding 5 mm, it has only a pair of functional wings of black color. Although it is slower in flight than other mosquitoes and seems clumsy, the insect from Asia nevertheless represents a real danger if it happens to spread. This is why Sciensano and the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (IMT) are jointly launching a census campaign this summer. To find out where the mosquito is spreading in Belgium, they invite citizens to monitor it and, in case of suspicion, to photograph it to report it on the platform. www.surveillancemoustiques.be.
