HTC launches the Desire 22 pro smartphone and promises to send you to the metaverse

The new 6.6-inch 5G smartphone is designed to work best with HTC’s Vive Flow immersive glasses and services like Netflix and Disney+ using HDCP 2.2.

At first glance, the new Desire 22 pro smartphone from HTC is not really different from the others. But the Taiwanese manufacturer wants to stand out from the competition by playing the metaverse card. Thus, the terminal is designed to be used in conjunction with the Vive Flow Lightweight Immersive VR Glasses. For this, it has the HDCP 2.2 protocol to transmit a protected video stream to the glasses. This allows Vive Flow to be used with Netflix, Disney+ and Twitch services. According to the manufacturer, you have your own private cinema room, with a screen up to 7.6 m wide. HTC has also provided an application for easy access to Viverse, the manufacturer’s metaverse. It will be possible to create avatars, manage NFTs and even use cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and Polygon.

The Desire 22 pro remains affordable and will be sold from 449 euros. It is therefore a mid-range model with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G SoC, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The 6.6-inch screen offers a definition of 1080 x 2412 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The manufacturer has not yet indicated the display technology used.

For photos and videos, the terminal has a main camera module of 64 megapixels (f / 1.79), an ultra-wide-angle module of 13 megapixels (f / 2.4) and a 5-megapixel (f/2.4) depth-sensing module. On the front, the device has a 32-megapixel (f/2.0) module.

On the power side, HTC relies on a 4520 mAh battery with fast charging, wireless charging, as well as a reverse charging function. For example, it is possible to charge the Vive Flow with the smartphone. Other features include the fingerprint reader integrated into the power button on the side, as well as IP67 certification to guarantee the waterproofness of the device.

The Desire 22 pro smartphone should be marketed soon, but HTC has not yet given precise dates of availability for France. The manufacturer, however, mentioned promotional offers. For a pre-order made before July 31, the customer benefits from a 15% discount on the HTC Desire 22 pro and Vive Flow bundle. In addition, the manufacturer offers True Wireless Earbuds (worth €24.99) and an HTC Desire 22 pro case (worth €34.99). The 15% discount on the bundle will also be applied from August 1 to August 14, but without the accessories offered.
