Huge icebergs loosened from Antarctica

The iceberg loosened about 20 kilometers from the British research station Halley, according to the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). No one currently lives at the station, which is closed for the winter.

Large cracks were observed already ten years ago, but the process has accelerated in the last year, BAS writes in a statement. Eventually the crack became so large that the iceberg loosened.
