Hunan’s foreign trade import and export increased by 49.6% in the first four months

Imports and exports with countries along the “Belt and Road” account for nearly 70% of the province’s total foreign trade value

According to data released by Changsha Customs on the 12th, in the first four months of 2023, Hunan’s total import and export value was 243.65 billion yuan, an increase of 49.6% over the same period last year. In April, Hunan’s foreign trade continued to maintain a steady growth, with a total import and export value of 64.26 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 29.7%.

In the first four months, Hunan established economic and trade exchanges with 226 countries and regions, and its imports and exports with the top three trading partners of ASEAN, the United States, and the European Union were 53.78 billion yuan, 25.52 billion yuan, and 20.66 billion yuan, respectively, a year-on-year increase of 64.4%, 40.8%, and 27.8%, accounting for more than 60% of the province’s total foreign trade value.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the “Belt and Road” initiative. The import and export between Hunan and countries along the “Belt and Road” was 97.31 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 76.2%, accounting for nearly 70% of the province’s total foreign trade value. The import and export to other member countries of RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) was 79.64 billion yuan, an increase of 43.9%. The trade between Hunan and Hong Kong recovered rapidly. In the first four months, the import and export of Hunan to Hong Kong was 19.26 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 62.5%.

Changsha, the provincial capital, still maintains its status as the “leader” of foreign trade. In the first four months, Changsha’s import and export reached 112.01 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 27.2%, accounting for 46% of the province’s total foreign trade value. Driven by their advantageous industries, Hengyang, Chenzhou, Yongzhou and Huaihua recorded impressive growth rates in foreign trade, with imports and exports increasing by 1.1, 1.4, 2 and 3.4 times year-on-year respectively.

The role of comprehensive bonded areas has been further exerted, and bonded logistics has shown new vitality. In the first four months, the import and export of the five comprehensive bonded areas in the province was 60.98 billion yuan, an increase of 80.1%. The market procurement export was 3.7 billion yuan, an increase of 50%. The province’s import and export through bonded logistics was 19.21 billion yuan, an increase of 132.2%.

In terms of export products, electromechanical products accounted for nearly half of the province’s total export value. Among them, the export of automobiles and construction machinery has doubled, and the export of rail transit equipment, lithium batteries, solar cells and other products has grown rapidly.
