Hurricane Rick was downgraded to category 1 on Monday in the western Mexican state of Michoacán hours after making landfall, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico.

“The center of hurricane rick, of category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, is located on land between the municipalities of Arteaga and Tumbiscatío, Michoacan. Its cloud bands cause very heavy rains at extraordinary points, strong winds and high waves “, the agency detailed in its most recent report.
The cyclone made landfall at dawn in the state of Guerrero and at 10:00 local time (15:00 GMT) it was 65 kilometers north of Lázaro Cárdenas (Michoacan) and 125 kilometers to the north-northwest of Zihuatanejo (Guerrero).
The cyclone moves north at 15 kilometers per hour registering sustained winds of 130 km / h with gusts of 155 km / h.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that Hurricane Rick left almost 98,000 users without electricity in the region, of which for now only 25% of the total affected have been restored.
The Meteorological Office estimated that the cloud bands of Rick they will produce “extraordinary punctual rains in Michoacán and Guerrero, very strong punctual rains in Jalisco, Colima and Guanajuato, in addition to strong punctual rains in the State of Mexico.”
Therefore, the general population was urged to take extreme precautions in the areas of the states mentioned due to rain, wind and waves, including maritime navigation, and to comply with the recommendations issued by the authorities of the National Civil Protection System.
According to the meteorological forecast, Rick It will be degraded this Monday to a tropical storm in the neighboring state of Jalisco.
