American singer Johnny Nash, famous for the planetary hit “I Can See Clearly Now” in 1972, has died at the age of 80, US media report.
Born in Texas, the star of the 70s died on Tuesday at his residence in Houston, his son Johnny Jr. told CBS television station in Los Angeles.
His track “I Can See Clearly Now” had climbed to the top of the charts in the United States, as did his other hit “Tears on My Pillow” in the United Kingdom in 1975.
Johnny Nash was the first non-Jamaican singer to record reggae in Jamaica, according to his website.
“He was a wonderful father and a devoted man to his family. He loved people and the world. He will be missed in his community. Family was everything to him, ”his son told TMZ, the celebrity news site.
