‘I felt sorry for Rutte during the debate, I saw his mouth tremble’

‘Of course I watched the RTL debate. What I thought was good was that citizens could also have their say. What you do get is that with six statements and a limited time, it is not possible to go into the content very deeply. I heard a lot of one-liners, except with Kaag. Marijnissen was also strong. I would not vote for her, because I think the SP is too conservative, but Rutte was dealt with very well by Marijnissen. I expected more from GroenLinks. I thought Klaver was ‘mwah’. There was something about his energy, it seemed like he wasn’t feeling quite well. I missed Ploumen. The PvdA used to be the party my parents voted for and actually the rest of my environment as well. I still consider this party, mainly because they are committed to inequality of opportunity. But I still have the benefits affair too fresh in my mind. I float more and more clearly to D66. Just like me, they are very progressive in many areas and with Kaag at the helm, they are strong in their shoes. ‘

‘I was pretty sure I was going to vote PVV, but then curfew came. I thought ‘Wilders, man, why the hell are you against it?’ That clock is necessary because everyone keeps huddling together. It’s a relief. I no longer see groups of young people on the street and there are few robberies in the area. Since corona it has been calmer everywhere anyway and the air has become cleaner. The only annoying thing at this time is that you can’t pee or have a cup of coffee anywhere. A friend of mine has already been vaccinated, and that is all neatly arranged. That is why I am now leaning towards Rutte. During the RTL debate I felt sorry for him. He was treated so harshly, also because of the benefits affair. I saw his mouth tremble, I just zipped away. Everyone is kicking at him, but I just got more sympathy for him. ‘

Floats: between SP, PvdD, GL & PvdA

‘No, I haven’t watched or listened to any debate yet. But I am becoming less and less of a glider. GroenLinks and the SP have now dropped out for me. I get tired of Klaver, of all his mannerisms and his way of opposition. He should take a more stance and be much sharper on points that he can bring in. I do not agree with their European position with the SP. Yes, there are also many things that I would have preferred to see differently, but we are simply in the EU. We can’t go back. I am looking for the best possible way to continue in that story. The PvdA and PvdD have remained for me. After seeing the documentary Classes I was very impressed by the Amsterdam alderman Marjolein Moorman. What enthusiasm, passion and decisiveness. I would like to see her as Minister of Education. The diversity of the PvdA’s list of candidates also appeals to me. I consider the PvdD mainly because of the climate and the future of my grandchildren. ‘

Wim de Jong (35), Buren

Floats: between CDA, VVD, FvD and BoerBurgerBeweging

‘As a dairy farmer, I lean towards the CDA. Cees de Jong, number 34 at the CDA, is also a dairy farmer himself and has a good vision of the problems we encounter in the agricultural sector. I was thinking of voting for him. Through the Stemwijzer I only found out that the CDA is in favor of building houses on land that is now used for agriculture. I was negatively surprised about that, so now I have doubts about the CDA again. Although I also think Omtzigt is a great guy. If he were the party leader, I would vote for him. Anyway, BoerBurgerBeweging may also be something for me, I will study that even more. Forum might still be possible, although I am getting tired of Baudet and his entire puppet theater. I have not written off the VVD yet. Rutte can never do it well for everyone, but he is always there. He was also strong in the RTL debate. ‘

Floats: between PvdD, GL & D66

‘I watch the debates out of curiosity, but it doesn’t influence my choice much. I still lean towards D66. I think Kaag has the best chance of achieving results because of her experience. She deserves our support. Decentralization has gone too far. Hopefully she can stop them. And although we are all right in the Netherlands, a little more balance in the field of social policy would be nice.

I still find the program of the Party for the Animals interesting, as well as their vision on agriculture. But I didn’t think it was smart that the party voted against the curfew, so I drifted away from them. In any case, I wonder why people are now complaining so much about the measures. Of course, I also feel sorry for my adolescent grandchildren who sit at home all the time. But if you look at Egypt, for example – where the rich survive the crisis and the poor don’t – then we’re really not so bad here. ‘
