“I looked up because I heard a scream and saw a car rush into the bus shelter at high speed”

It was a real miracle that happened this Saturday around 1 p.m. in Mechelen. In the Nekkerspoel district, a car deviated from its trajectory to roll over the pedestrian bridge and ended its race in a bus shelter. “I looked up because I heard a scream and saw a car rush into the bus shelter at high speed,” a witness told Laatste Nieuws.

Fortunately, no passers-by were in the way of the vehicle. “A guardian angel was watching over this place”, confides the police spokesperson to our colleagues. It must be said that this bridge and this bus stop are very busy.

Regarding the driver of the car in question, it is a 69-year-old Malinois who probably fell ill at the wheel. He had to be resuscitated on the spot before being transferred to the hospital.
