“It gives me the opportunity to appear on TV for the first time,” said Leo Rey about Daniel “Egg” Fuenzalida.
The 42-year-old singer and now world champion of the video game Mortal Kombat was in a chapter of La Divina Comida broadcast by Chilevisión a couple of weeks ago, accompanied by Raquel Argandoña, Geraldine Neary and Pato Sotomayor.
This was his story about his television debut:
“I was with my mom from 14 to 17 years old. When I turn 17, I sign up for the Military Service so that I can get out of there later and take my path as an adult. And I went to Arica to do my Military Service.
“I started working as a waiter in the officers’ casino. And I saw Daniel Fuenzalida. ‘Where have I seen this rooster before?’ And of course, the ‘Egg’ Fuenzalida from Extra Young. And he brought me closer to him and I told him ‘he knows that I sing’. ‘Really?, what do you sing? Let’s see?’. ‘Songs of Luis Miguel’. ‘Let’s see, he sings’.
“And I sang to him. She liked it and applauded me. She tells me ‘when you get out of here, come see me’. And when I leave the Service I call him. And he gives me the opportunity to be on TV for the first time. And there I said ‘this is my chance. From now on nobody takes me away from here.’ Artist”
Pato Sotomayor: “And you celebrated alone?”
Leo King: “Only. Imagine yourself on the bus back to La Calera, and me passing the roll. I was very focused on what was going to be Leo Rey. I always knew it”
Sotomayor: “His story is very strong. But the effort is very nice, the perseverance, with having a clear objective, like race horses, nothing clouds it. Leo is the best example that it can be done”.
