ICC Awards 2021: ICC Test Player of the Year 2021; Babur in ODIs

Dubai: England captain Joe Root named ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2021
. The route was to overtake the opponents with an amazing run chase. In 2021, Root scored 1708 runs in 15 Tests, including six centuries. Only West Indies legends Vivian Richards and Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf have scored more than 1,700 runs in Tests a calendar year ago.

Root has 14 wickets in 2021 Tests, including a five-wicket haul in Ahmedabad. Root beat New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson, Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne and Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Babur Assam has not been challenged for the ODI Player of the Year award. Babur had scored 405 runs in six ODIs at an average of 67.50, including two centuries. Babur overtook Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, South Africa’s Janeman Malan and Ireland’s Paul Stirling to become Assam’s best ODI player of the year. Among them, Janeman Malan has been named the ICC Men’s Emerging Player of 2021.
