The note has just fallen, and it is salty. The elected representatives of the Community of communes of Island of Oleron (Charente-Maritime) are claiming Airbnb 468,000 euros, under the tourist tax for the years 2020 and 2021, reveals Le Figaro Real Estate.
The affair broke out at the beginning of the year, and threatened to end up in court. The community felt that the company had not provided all of the stays for this period. After a standoff between the two parties, Airbnb finally transmitted this data, indicates Le Figaro.
10,000 euros in late payment interest
It shows that the company owes more than 457,000 euros (nearly 235,000 for 2020 and around 223,000 euros for 2021) and more than 10,000 euros in late payment interest. The tourist tax must, in fact, be paid no later than December 31 of each year. In total, Airbnb’s debt thus amounts to 468,000 euros.
After this first step, the elected officials are now waiting for the settlement of the sum.
