The entire Reims group spoke out to show their support for the club by lowering their emoluments until the end of the season. An unprecedented act in Ligue 1 in the face of the health and economic crisis facing the Stade de Reims, like all French clubs.
This is a first in Ligue 1. In a burst of solidarity in the face of the Covid-19 crisis, the players of the Stade de Reims have taken the collective decision to reduce their emoluments from January to June 2021. Via an open letter, the professional group has expressed support for their “family club”. This choice follows the “unprecedented economic crisis” facing the team currently ranked 14th in the championship, like the entire French League.
The players explain having discussed with their managers initially, then “spontaneously agreed to a significant drop” in salaries until the end of the 2020/2021 financial year. This financial effort is a strong act, where the players of Reims “seek to act as responsible, respectful and united men”. It will also make it possible not to threaten the jobs of the employees present daily for the good of the club.
