A new controversy shakes the Catholic Church of Brazil after the audios were known in which a priest confesses to having had sexual relations with a man whom he later married.

The priest, named Julio Cezar Souza Cavalcante, would have known the man for several years and accepted that they had sex “two or three times.”
The controversy arose after the wife published the audios of a conversation between the three, in which both the husband and the priest admit what happened.
“It was a weakness. Then we went to confession and became friends. In addition, we promised that we would not do it again,” says Father Julio on the recording.
The tape lasts ten minutes and has gone viral on social networks in Brazil in recent days. At one point the woman can be heard berating the priest for her actions.
“You as a priest have relations with a faithful knowing that he is engaged. How can I define this? the wife claimed.
The priest was the parish priest in charge of the Matriz Nuestra de la Señora de la Candelaria church and was 51 years old.

The church’s response
After the scandal the Archbishop of Natal, Monsignor Jaime Vieira Rocha, reported that the Archdiocese made the decision to remove Julio Souza from his post. In addition, the religious community also released a press release rejecting what happened.
“It was determined to remove the aforementioned priest from all his ministerial functions carried out in the Archdiocese of Natal, so that the facts are investigated and the necessary measures are taken. It is also ordered that a preliminary investigation be opened, as prescribed by Canon Law, so that possible responsibilities can be investigated.” indicated the Archdiocese.
