Many Brussels residents have never known the facade of the Palais de Justice without its scaffolding. Starting with all those born after 1984, the date on which they were placed. But it could be that this device will be withdrawn soon. This is what Mathieu Michel (MR), Secretary of State in charge of the Régie des Bâtiments, promises in an interview with DH and La Libre.
“The Palais de Justice in Brussels is my priority. It must be the symbol of modern and accessible justice. In 2023, I pledge to remove the scaffolding visible from the rue de la Régence, ”tweeted the liberal. In its objectives, it is also planned to complete the exterior renovations in 2030, and those of the interior in 2040. The Brussels architect Francis Metzger, at the head of the Poelaert Foundation, told the DH that this goal is achievable.
A budget of around 200 million euros is planned for the entire renovation. Half will go for the exterior, in the restoration of stones and in the removal of scaffolding. The rest should be used for cleaning the interior, for catering but also for modernizing services. Mathieu Michel wants to improve the digital aspect and the elements that fall under administrative simplification.
