In the cocoa world, two visions clash on “responsible multinationals”

The debate on the initiative “For responsible companies”, on which the Swiss will vote on November 29, provokes a lively debate, which sometimes even divides players from the same economic sector.

This is the case in the world of chocolate production: the former director of Chocolat Villars Alexandre Sacerdoti is in favor of the initiative which provides that companies domiciled in Switzerland ensure respect for human rights and internationally recognized environmental standards and that the companies they control do the same. According to him, “this initiative would make it possible to increase Switzerland’s attractiveness as an industrial center with high added value. Today, the model of a soulless company, which does not care about its impact on humans and the environment, is outdated. ”
