In the Eure, Ludovic recycles wooden pallets

In the 1940s, two Navy officers designed the handling pallet to rationalize the transport of materials. The Normandy landings allowed its development and its arrival in Europe. Since then, its use has spread around the world. In France, 600 million pallets are loaded per year for ten times less production. The pallet is still mostly made of wood.

Since the decree of July 13, 1994, their holders must ensure recycling, but only 10% of them are recovered. In Manneville-sur-Risle (Eure), Ludovic Desmarais discovered their reuse during the first confinement “with the desire to have garden furniture. It was very popular with family and friends and there was demand ”. On this momentum, with his wife Séverine, they founded the company Recycling pallet.

“It went like an arrow! “

From the moment the first fabrications appeared on Facebook, “things went soaring! », Says Ludovic Desmarais. In his garage, he gradually equipped himself with machines: “I only work with pallets that I collect or that they bring to me to give them a second life. I take them apart and sort the woods. There are different essences, but in general it is fir. Moreover, some have aged well and there are very beautiful patinas. “

With his stock, the new carpenter responds to almost all requests on estimate: “I made garden furniture, American Adirondack-style armchairs, beds and headboards, sliding doors, personalized planters, clocks, etc. an outdoor terrace and small items such as phone holders or dog and cat bowls. Recently, I carried out the complete layout of the La Maison Pain d’Épice store in Pont-Audemer with the shelves and the checkout counter. Word of mouth works very well, ”explains Ludovic.

“We have to find a room”

Séverine takes care of the decoration, because “I deliver raw. Then, we can be asked to stain or decorate ”. With times and reasonable prices, the couple receives their orders mostly online and is also present during the holiday season at craft shows or Christmas markets: “We hope to be able to continue, because we have lots of ideas. But you have to find a room, because with us it becomes too small and noisy. I don’t think this is a fad. Recycling and wood, people love it! »Indicates the partner.
