In the Europa League – YB reached the round of 16 against harmless Leverkusen – sport

  • The Young Boys win the second leg of the second leg in the Europa League with 2-0.
  • After winning the first leg 4: 3 a week ago, YB is in the EL round of 16 for the first time.
  • Both goals by Jordan Siebatcheu and Christian Fassnacht fall after the break.

All good things come in threes. After YB was eliminated in the Europa League sixteenth finals in 2010/11 and 2014/15, the Swiss champions are in the eighth finals for the first time this year – and deservedly so. The 4: 3 success in Wankdorf was followed by a clear 2: 0 victory in the second leg in Leverkusen.

The decisive factor in the game was a gift from the Bundesliga club: Jordan Siebatcheu’s 1-0 win in the 47th minute was preceded by a major mistake by substitute goalie Niklas Lomb. The performance of the Bernese could not diminish this in any way. Christian Fassnacht made the decision after a counterattack in the 86th minute.

Leverkusen without a prescription

With the first leg success behind them, YB acted at eye level with Leverkusen for over 90 minutes. The Werkself did not produce more than two good chances.

  • 57th Minute: After a cross, Leon Bailey closes with the heel.
  • 80th Minute: Patrik Schick heaves a buttery flank towards the YB goal.

In both scenes, YB goalie David von Ballmoos saved his colors from a goal. Otherwise there wasn’t much from Leverkusen. The last Swiss European Cup representative limited himself to the most important things – but nothing more was necessary.

After the offensive trump card in the first leg and 7 goals had warmed the football heart, the second leg offered more lean food for tactics fans. As it turned out in the end, however, coach Gerardo Seoane’s team had learned the right lessons from the first leg, when they almost lost a 3-0 win.

YB to illustrate Kreis

The Bernese are only the fourth Swiss club to progress in a European duel with a Bundesliga club: GC, Servette and Basel had previously succeeded in this. As a financial reward, YB receives a bonus of 1.1 million euros from the Uefa fund for reaching the next round. A welcome injection of money in the Corona crisis.

Who YB meets in the round of 16 comes out on Friday. Then the next round will be drawn in Nyon. On and in the SRF Sport App you can follow the live stream from 12:55 p.m. who will be the next YB opponent. The round of 16 will be played on March 11th and 18th.
