In the 2020/2021 season, the Slovenian club Olimpia Ljubljana and the Austrian Pustertal will also be active in the IHL international hockey competition, and Orli Znojmo will return after a one-year break.
The decision was made by the league management at Wednesday’s online meeting. The participation of the Austrian Feldkirch was rejected by other clubs.
In the 2020/2021 year, there will be 14 teams from 5 countries in the IHL. In addition to the Slovak representative of iClinic Bratislava Capitals and the Czech Znojmo, there will also be clubs from Austria, Hungary and Italy in the league. “The great interest in participating in our league has given us a welcome opportunity to increase the number of clubs. Most owners are positive about the 14-member competition. By accepting two brand new clubs and one old new one, we have confirmed our commitment to the international league,” Steinburg.
The club from Znojmo left the then EBEL, which later changed its name to IHL, after the 2019/2020 season. The reason was the uncertain financial situation of the club. He worked at EBEL in the years 2011-2020, in the year 2020/2021 he acted in the third highest Czech competition, but it has the status of an amateur league and so it cannot take place due to anti-pandemic measures taken in the Czech Republic.
