The Ministry of Trade and Industry revealed the reasons for stopping hundreds of companies from exporting their products to Egypt by the General Organization for Export and Import Control.

The General Organization for Export and Import Control, affiliated to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, published a list of companies suspended for violating Minister of Trade and Industry Decision No. 43 of 2016 regarding the rules for registering factories eligible to export their products to Egypt.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry issued a statement today, Sunday, to clarify the reasons for stopping imports from a number of companies exporting to Egypt.

The most prominent of these companies is the Saudi Almarai Food Company, whose products include brands such as Almarai products, and the list includes the Nestle Mineral Water Company.

Among these companies is also the British company Unilever, which owns more than 400 brands in a number of fields.

The ministry stated that some companies have been suspended since 2020, as they are It has established new factories in Egypt and no longer needs to export its products to Egypt.

In addition, there are other companies bearing international brands that no longer export their products to the Egyptian market in light of the presence of branches of the company operating in the Egyptian market, and owning more than 25 trademarks, according to the ministry.

Will Unilever and Almarai products stop?

Unilever Mashreq said that its industrial and commercial activities, whether export or import, are proceeding in a normal and orderly manner in accordance with all laws and decisions in force in Egypt.

And she added in a press statement today, Sunday, that some news talked about stopping the import of products not required to be registered, such as Lipton tea, in accordance with Resolution 43 of 2016.

He explained that these products are completely manufactured in the company’s factories, and they are exported to more than 45 Arab, African and European countries, which confirms the incorrectness of the circulating news.

Unilever Mashreq data indicates that there are a number of factories for it in Egypt in different regions, such as 6th of October City or Borg El Arab in Alexandria.

A company like the Saudi Almarai Company also has factories in Egypt under its Beyti and Almarai brand.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Trade and Industry denied the issuance of any decisions by the ministry that would prevent the export of Saudi products to the Egyptian market.

In a statement today, Sunday, he indicated the ministry’s keenness to provide the necessary facilities to Saudi companies, whether investing or exporting to the Egyptian market.

He pointed out that the conditions of some Saudi companies are being reconciled according to the registration rules for factories qualified to export to the Egyptian market.
