Inflation 2022: the products that have risen the most until April – Sectors – Economy

This Thursday the Dane revealed that the inflation In Colombia, there is still no respite, to the point that the annual variation reached 9.23 percent in April, more than four times the level it showed for the same month last year.

In this context, according to figures from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane)although the potato is no longer the food that is rising the most so far this year, it is still in the ranking of the 10 products of the family basket that have increased their prices the most.

This strong variation in the cost of products, especially food, has already led to this year, at the April cutoff, the cost of living exceeds the increase in the minimum wage for the lower-income segments of the population.

Thus, the annual variation of the CPI by income level was 11.26 percent for poor people and 11.07 percent for the vulnerable population, while for the middle class it reached 9.43 percent and in high income inflation runs at 7.46 percent through April.

The ‘top’ 10 of the biggest increases between January and April

In the first place is the onion, with an increase of 63.39%. They are followed by potatoes, with 55.11%; cassava for home consumption, with 54.8%; bananas, with 40.53%; the tomato, with 35%; oranges, with 30.5%; arracacha, yams and other tubers, with 25.25%; blackberries, with 24.23%; rice, with 22.95% and fresh fruits, with 19.07%.

The products that hit the pocket the hardest

However, the data of the largest increases in products between January and April reflect that those that rise the most are not always the ones that hit the pockets of Colombians the most due to the High pricessince according to the Dane methodology, each product is weighted according to its impact on the family shopping basket.

Thus, when looking at the percentage contribution of products to the change in accumulated inflation up to April, which is 5.66 percent, these are the spending groups that are causing inflation to rise the most this year.

In the first place is food in restaurants, outside the home or at home, with 0.51%. They are followed by electricity, with 0.26%; potatoes, with 0.25%; cleaning and maintenance products, with 0.22%; urban transport, with 0.22%; milk, with 0.21%; rice, with 0.2%; beef and derivatives, with 0.2%; fresh fruit, with 0.19% and imputed rent, with 0.19%.
