A Florida man who was released from prison after serving 33 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit is today back behind bars for attempted murder.

Last month, Edward Clayton Taylor, 57, was celebrating a judge’s decision to vacate the conviction in the case of rape of a 4-year-old girl in 1986.

His lawyers battled against the sentence for more than a decade.

However, the effort seems to be in vain, since the inmate faces a new prison sentence if he is convicted of an incident in which shot another man in a brawl this week.

The incident in Jacksonville Beach was captured by security cameras of the area. In the footage, Clayton is seen walking towards the victim before striking him in the chest. When he tried to escape, several individuals fired at his vehicle.

Police found bullet holes in the suspect’s car.

Taylor denied connection with the events.

The African American was arrested last Saturday. face second degree attempted murder charges and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A Taylor had been granted parole in 2019.

The judge decided to exonerate the convict, among other things, because the victim retracted her allegations and not all the evidence in the case was provided to the defense.

Innocence Project” advocated for the release by Taylor since 2010.

The man remains held in Duval County Jail on $1.1 million bail.
