An Interview with Tim Krieglstein
We recently sat down with Tim Krieglstein,CEO of the Germany SailGP team,to discuss their progress and ambitions in Season 5. Mr. Krieglstein brings a unique viewpoint, having a background in cognitive management from the Institute for Cognitive Management in Stuttgart.
Archyde: Mr. Krieglstein,thank you for joining us today. Season 5 is well underway.How would you assess Team Germany’s performance so far?
Tim Krieglstein: Thank you for having me. we’re approaching the season with a long-term strategy. While we’re not yet at the level of the top teams, we’re seeing tangible improvements in boat handling, strategic decision-making, and overall team cohesion.We’re focusing on incremental gains, learning from each race, and building a solid foundation for future seasons.The competition is incredibly intense, and we’re well aware of the challenges.
Overcoming Challenges and Building for the Future
archyde: The SailGP circuit presents a unique set of challenges, from the extreme speeds to the technical complexities of the F50 catamarans. What are some of the biggest hurdles Team Germany has faced?
Tim Krieglstein: The learning curve is steep, but the team has displayed incredible resilience. We’ve experienced penalties, some equipment issues, and the pressure to consistently perform at the highest level. We are focusing on data analysis and constantly refining our approach to improve our performance and minimize these kinds of setbacks. We are building a team with a growth mindset, and learning is our highest priority.
Archyde: How crucial is the team’s cognitive approach,given your background,in the heat of competition? How do you apply your knowledge of cognitive management to the team?
Tim Krieglstein: Cognitive management plays a meaningful role.Under immense pressure, speedy and sound decision-making is critical, and with advanced data analysis. We equip our team with the mental tools to remain focused, analyze situations accurately, and react rationally. It’s about building mental stamina and fostering a high-performance surroundings where everyone can operate at their peak.
Archyde: Looking ahead, what are Team Germany’s primary goals for SailGP Season 5?
Tim Krieglstein: Our primary goals are to consistently improve, score more points in each regatta and establish ourselves as a team that can compete with some of the more established teams. We aim to be a regular contender in the top half of the fleet within the next two seasons. We want to inspire the next generation of German sailors and showcase the potential of german sailing on the world stage.
Archyde: What do you beleive is the single moast significant factor that will determine Team Germany’s long-term success in SailGP?
Tim krieglstein: It’s a combination, but I’d say a relentless dedication to continuous improvement, from the top level to the crew. SailGP is a very dynamic sport, and we must continually evolve our strategies and technology while being committed to sustainable practices and ensuring the team’s well-being.That will drive our long-term success.
