The Manoir Lafontaine, symbol of the real estate crisis since its residents were faced with renovations, was officially sold on Tuesday to the Interloge organization for the transformation of 91 apartments into affordable housing.
The building located a few meters from Lafontaine Park, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, was sold for $18,810,000 by Hillpark.
This is a drop from the original sale price. Indeed, the building was offered at $28 million last August.
In addition to the title deeds, “all the studies carried out on the condition of the building and the needs for renovation” were also transferred to the organization.
Last December, Interloge had offered to acquire the 14-storey building to preserve affordable housing there in the midst of a housing crisis.
The City of Montreal had gotten involved in this file by releasing $ 5.6 million in April 2023.
The ten households still housed there will therefore be able to stay, even if they will have to temporarily leave their residence while the work is being carried out.
Remember that the tenants found themselves in a battle in court after receiving a temporary evacuation notice for work in March 2021.
The Manoir Lafontaine had been built to serve as a hotel for Expo 67. It was then transformed into a residential building.
