«The laboratories are preparing»
Kristina Schmidt from the Spiez Laboratory is helping Swiss university hospitals to introduce monkeypox tests. She expects that these will have to be used more often – also because of confusion with chickenpox and herpes.
The 2003 electron micrograph shows the oval-shaped monkeypox viruses (left) and spherical, immature viruses (right) recovered from a human skin sample.

Ms. Schmidt, the first case of monkeypox in Switzerland was diagnosed in your laboratory. I assume you have a lot to do now.
Yes, we are busy with the diagnostics. We are currently sharing material and information on establishing monkeypox analysis with other laboratories in Switzerland. It is good if as many as possible are prepared.
