Interview with Robert Habeck: “We have to prevent emigration”

Berlin Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) expects massive economic consequences in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. If “Russia escalates the conflict further, the European Union will respond with tough economic sanctions in coordination with its partners,” Habeck told the Handelsblatt. “We’re prepared for that,” he added. One must say clearly “that sanctions will also hit our own economy hard,” said Habeck. That is “also clear to our company”.

According to Habeck, the situation is “more than threatening”. Europe is closer to war than it has been in decades. The consequences are unpredictable, he warned.
