The 6th generation iPad mini is a bit more repairable. Until now, a user of the small tablet who wanted to have the device’s battery replaced would receive a new iPad mini (if the device is eligible for repair). Thank you for the gift, but this practice represents a cost for Apple, not to mention the environmental issue.
Things have changed, first in Apple’s depots spread all over the world (that’s where the more complicated repairs are done). According to an internal memo intercepted by MacRumorsthe manufacturer asks to replace the battery and return the repaired tablet to the user.
No more exchanges with a new iPad mini (or refurb), which could be to the customer’s advantage if the original tablet was a little damaged. From now on, only the battery will be new! For now, this new policy only applies to depots, not (yet) to Apple Stores and authorized repairers. Other iPad models may follow.
Currently, the price for the battery replacement is €109 for an iPad mini 6.
