Abu Dhabi: Venkatesh Iyer is the latest invention of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Iyer has played only two IPL 2021 matches. Iyer was able to make a decisive impact in both these matches. In the first match, Royal Challengers Bangalore were unbeaten on 41 off 27 balls. He scored 53 off 30 balls against Mumbai Indians yesterday. His innings consisted of four fours and three sixes.
After the match, Iyer spoke about his innings. Iyer talks about the impact of former Indian cricketer and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on his cricket career. In Iyer’s words … ” I wanted to play for Kolkata. Because in the beginning Ganguly was the captain of the team. I see it as a dream come true to be able to play for Kolkata.
I get a lot of gifts. Receiving great reception. More than that I am a Ganguly fan. Like Ganguly, I am left-handed. I have often tried to imitate him. Iyer has made a huge impact on my career, even if not directly, ”Iyer told Rahul Tripathi in a special video after yesterday’s match against Mumbai.
Iyer did not play for Kolkata in the first quarter in India. Though co-opener Shubhman Gill returned earlier yesterday, Iyer, who ate without pressure, played a big role in preparing Kolkata for a better score.
