Squid Game is the latest surprise phenomenon from the Netflix streaming platform. Will this series have a season 2? Here is what its creator says.
[Mis à jour le 14 octobre 2021 à 15h46] Squid Game is causing a sensation among subscribers of Netflix, to the point that it is controversial in the playgrounds. Series prohibited to under 16s in which participants engage in deadly games to win money, inspired by Battle Royal and Alice in Borderland, it would have become the most viewed program of the streaming platform at its launch, ahead of The Bridgertons Chronicle. Squid Game was reportedly viewed by 111 million subscribing households less than a month after it went live, a record for Netflix.
But will a sequel see the light of day? For the time being, Netflix has not communicated around a possible season 2 by Squid Game. The creator of the series, Hwang Dong-hyuk, however, spoke about this to Variety September 24, 2021. If it does not completely close the door to a new burst of episodes, the possible season 2 is currently not in the works. He wants to make films before thinking about a sequel to Squid Game: “I don’t have specific plans for a Squid Game 2. It exhausts me just thinking about it. But if I had to do it, I probably wouldn’t do it alone. I would like to work with several writers and lean on several experienced directors. ”
Nearby Hollywood Reporter, the creator of Squid Game also touched on the different storylines that could be dealt with during a potential season 2: “It’s true, season 1 has an open ending, but in reality, I thought it could be a good conclusion to the story […] But there are other intrigues in the series that have not been mentioned, like that of the police commander and that of his brother. If I find myself writing a season 2, I would love to write this plot […]and I could also look at the story of this recruiter in a suit […] And, of course, we could write the rest of Gi-hun’s story […]So, I don’t know yet. But I would only say that there are several possibilities of intrigue for a season 2 “. We will therefore have to wait for an official communication from Netflix on the subject to be fixed.
