On Saturday evening, the Israeli army reported a rocket fire from the Gaza Strip towards Israel, the first in a month.

The shooting came as Islamic Jihad, one of the Palestinian armed factions in the Gaza Strip, threatened Israel with reprisals after the assassination of two of its leaders on Thursday in Jenin, in the north of the occupied West Bank.

It also comes the day after the death in Hawara, at the entrance to Nablus, in the north of the occupied West Bank, of a Palestinian, shot dead by an Israeli border guard, in disputed circumstances, Israel accusing him of ” terrorist attack” and Palestinian officials denouncing a cold-blooded assassination following a “quarrel” with the border guard.

In response to this shooting, “IDF fighter jets targeted this night (Sunday) a weapons manufacturing site belonging to the terrorist organization Hamas”, in power in the Gaza Strip, the army said in a statement. a statement, stating that it was the site where “the majority of rockets” of Hamas are manufactured.

“In addition, the Israeli army targeted a Hamas terror tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip,” the statement added.

A few hours later, the army said it had targeted a Hamas military post “in response to fire from the Gaza Strip against Israeli warplanes”.

The armed wing of Hamas said it used anti-aircraft missiles during the bombings by Israeli warplanes on the enclave.

Security sources in Gaza report two strikes against the south of the enclave of 2.3 million people, one against a military training site in Khan Younis, and the other in an uninhabited area close to Rafah.

These strikes caused no injuries, according to Palestinian medical sources.

“The Zionist enemy is extending its aggression against our people by brutally bombarding the Gaza Strip, following its crime yesterday of executing martyr Ammar Mufleh in Hawara,” Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said.

At least 49 Palestinians, including combatants, but also civilians including children, died from August 5 to 7 in a confrontation between the Israeli army and the Islamic Jihad group in Gaza, an enclave under Israeli blockade since 2007.
