While this new season of the series arrives, which has already exceeded 100 million views, we reveal production data that, although it is quite fictional, also has some aspects that are very real.

1. It wasn’t always the squid game

Originally, the series was called Round Six, and was referring to the number of games that money-hungry contestants would participate in. The change to The Squid Game was to refer to a popular Korean children’s game that was very familiar to this audience. The creator of the series remembers having enjoyed this type of entertainment a lot as a child.

2. GOOD PRIZE

Although in the series there is talk of an initial prize of 45,600,000 million won for whoever manages to overcome the games victoriously, that figure does not say much in the West. At the exchange it is estimated that it can be about 33 million euros or just under 38 million dollars. In Colombian pesos, the figure would be about 148 billion pesos.

3. REAL NUMBER

On the cards that each of the candidates to participate in the gruesome game of Squid receives, there is a telephone number engraved. The production actually put a number that exists in South Korea, that’s how for weeks the owner of this line almost went crazy because of the thousands of calls he received, that’s why he made a formal complaint and the platform had to react, editing the scenes where you see the full number.

4. GIANT DOLL

Many thought that the doll that says green light and red light and becomes a complete villain in the first game was a product of post-production, however, it has already been established that the doll exists. The production borrowed it to shoot scenes at the Macha Land carriage museum in Jincheon Province, North Chungcheong. The series took her about three hours from Seoul (capital of South Korea), to the place where the series was shot.

5. THE SUPERMODEL AND THE HOT

Sage-byeok, the woman who goes the furthest in the sinister game is actually an oriental supermodel. Her name is Jung Ho-Yeon and according to Vogue she represents South Korea’s next top model. With the success of the series, she obtained 15 million followers on her Instagram in a few days. For his part, actor Park Hae-soo, who plays Sang-Woo the financial lawyer who falls out of favor with the lenders, is quite a heartthrob on local television. It was recently announced that in the version of The Money Heist to be held in Korea, he will bring Berlin to life.

6. IN A DRAWER

Like many successful stories, this drama was also in a drawer for many years. Director and screenwriter Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that he started writing it in 2008, but it was rejected because for some it was too violent. He wanted to do it independently, but it was expensive, and he was also unsuccessful with the casting. Only a couple of years ago Netflix gave him a free pass.
