“It was the same number”

Chantal complies and calls Belfius to be sure that her card has been blocked. After 15 minutes of waiting, no one answers and Chantal hangs up. She is called back a few minutes later by the same number and falls on an alleged bank employee, yet it was a crook. : “ It was the same number, so I assumed it was really someone from Belfius ».

The alleged employee asked Chantal to install a program on her computer and transfer her money to “safe” accounts. She even advised him to call the police! What she did the next day: It was only thanks to the police that I heard about the new modus operandi of the scammers who can falsify telephone numbers ».

Of the 100,000 euros lost, only 30,000 could be recovered.
