Returning suddenly to activities on June 1, the deadline established for the National Day of Sana Distancia, puts the control of the Covid-19 pandemic at risk, warned the undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell.
On June 1 it is not that we go out to do everything we used to do, in an important part of cities, mainly cities, of course it includes Mexico City, you cannot do that, because in case of doing it we would put you at serious risk managing the epidemic, controlling the epidemic, ”the official explained.
During the usual evening conference to report on the numbers of the Covid-19 epidemic in the country, López-Gatell acknowledged that there is confusion in the population, as the National Day of Healthy Distance did not end next week.
The big risk is that there will be an upturn in the epidemic, that contagions will begin to accelerate, therefore the cases and eventually deaths.
This naturally causes confusion to those who had the expectation that on June 1 that would happen, on the contrary, and that we have discussed in recent days, there are people who, on the contrary, who want to see a National Day of Sana Distance that lasts much longer, “said López-Gatell.
There were 215 more deaths
The undersecretary of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, José Luis Alomía, presented the statistical report, corresponding to May 24, in which it was highlighted that 7,394 deaths were reached, 215 more in relation to Saturday.
It is only a fifth, 14 thousand 247 cases that make up the active epidemic in Mexico, a fifth that has started with signs and symptoms of disease in the last 14 days.
Likewise, as of today, with the results that were issued, there is an updated number of 7,394 people who unfortunately have lost their lives due to the complications caused by Covid-19, ”said the specialist.
Alomia explained that 68 thousand 620 confirmed cases were reached, that until Sunday a total of 28 thousand 931 cases were suspected, 121 thousand 613 were negative and since the beginning of the pandemic 219 thousand 164 people have been studied.
López Gatell thanks
Undersecretary López-Gatell thanked the World Health Organization (WHO) for the integration of the group of experts who are going to prepare the update of the International Health Regulations, as announced by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
For me it is an enormous privilege, a distinction, I have absolute respect for the WHO and of course I would gladly accept once the consent of the Government of Mexico is formalized, which will have to be paid through the Foreign Ministry and when I contact The Organization will be ready to fulfill this task, “said López-Gatell.
