Joe Biden also wins recount in Georgia state

After the Georgia vote was recounted, authorities confirmed Democrat Joe Biden’s victory. Meanwhile, he is raising serious allegations against incumbent Donald Trump.

Joe Biden has been verified as the Georgia state presidential election winner on verification. His lead over incumbent Donald Trump is 12,284 votes, as the responsible State Secretary Brad Raffensperger announced on Thursday evening (local time).

Death threats against election officials

Before the manual review of around five million ballot papers began, Biden was ahead with around 14,000 votes. The decline is not surprising: a few days ago it was discovered that electoral commissions in two Republican-ruled districts had forgotten to include several thousand counted votes in the bill.

Raffensperger stressed on local television that no evidence of election fraud had been found. It had previously received massive threats from Republicans. There were also death threats. However, Trump can still request a recount because the gap between the candidates is less than 0.5 percentage points. The state with a population of 10.6 million – slightly less than Baden-Württemberg – has 16 electorates.

Biden was declared the winner of the US election on November 7th by leading US media. Trump refuses, however, to admit defeat. He speaks of electoral fraud, but does not provide any solid evidence. He hopes to be able to challenge the election result through legal channels.

Biden: America’s “Most Irresponsible President”

In the meantime, Biden called Trump’s stance of blocking after the US election “completely irresponsible”. His refusal to recognize the result of the November 3rd election is damaging the reputation of democracy, said Biden on Thursday in Wilmington, Delaware. Looking at Trump’s various efforts to undermine the election result, Biden said he would go down in history as America’s “most irresponsible president”.

Because of Trump’s stance, the handover of official business (“transition”) provided for by law cannot yet be initiated. Actually, Biden and his team would get access to ministries, authorities and confidential government information before they took office. The transition period from election to swearing in is more than two months. Biden is due to be sworn in on January 20th. He warns that Trump’s stance on blocking could delay the containment of the corona pandemic and lead to an even higher number of victims.
