Former FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has been arrested along withOscar Grau, CEO of the club, Romanian Gómez Ponti, head of legal services and Jaume Masferrer, former director of the presidency and right-hand area of Bartomeu, after the Mossos d’Esquadra unit specializing in economic crimes showed up at the club’s offices at the Camp Nou on Monday to gather more information on the call “BarçaGate“.
The record is linked to the so-called “BarçaGate“, in which it is investigated if a company contracted by the azulgrana club carried out a campaign of discredit in the social networks of players and organizations contrary to the directive of the ex-president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
In a device that is being carried out this Monday morning, agents of the Central Economic Crimes Area of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Mossos d’Esquadra have burst into the offices of the Barcelona club, in the framework of their research, according to reporting sources.
In the previous proceedings, the Mossos d’Esquadra found indications of possible unfair administration and / or corruption between individuals.
This judicial investigation, which is based on a complaint from the Barça opinion group ‘Dignitat Blaugrana’, is still under summary secrecy, which has been extended six times by the court of instruction number 13 of the Barcelona High Court. The last extension ends on March 10th.
The police operation takes place just in the week in which next Sunday, March 7, the elections for the presidency of FC Barcelona are scheduled after a motion of censure forced the resignation of former president Bartomeu.
