Juan Daniel Oviedo would run for Mayor of Bogotá – Bogotá

The outgoing director of the Dane, Juan Daniel Oviedo, revealed this Friday that he will seek to reach the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá in the next local elections to be held in 2023.

It should be noted that Oviedo recently rejected President-elect Gustavo Petro’s offer to continue leading Dane and explained that the decision was due to the fact that during the splicing process he saw that there was no agreement on some of the issues that he has defended in recent years. four years and which, in his opinion, should be further developed.

Oviedo revealed his new intentions in an interview with Blu Radio, where he assured that running the country’s capital was his “dream” and “desire.”

In addition, he revealed details of how he intends to get to the race for Mayor of Bogotá: “So give me a fight, I want to go on the independent side, collecting signatures and see if we can make a contribution to the public service of the country through that position“.

If his aspiration to the Mayor’s Office materializes, this would be the first popular election process to which the economist, who has been at the head of the Dane address since 2018, when he was appointed to that position by President Iván Duque, would submit.

This Friday, August 5, Oviedo presented the results of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) collected by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), where it revealed that the variation in the cost of living for Colombians in July reached two digits and stood at 10.21 percent, which has not been seen for 22 years and reflects the inflation that the country is experiencing.

Furthermore, the report showed that the cities with the highest annual variation in the cost of living were Cúcuta, Santa Marta and Valledupar with about 14.1; 13.72 and 13.11 percent, respectively. At the other extreme were Bogotá, with 9.21%, Pasto with 9.84% and Manizales with 9.87%.
