There is no so-called “elixir of life”, which can give a person a longer life, but a person can enjoy living as long as possible without suffering from diseases and health troubles by adding more foods and drinks known for their healthy content.

A study, published in the British National Library of Health, examined the vascular effects of dietary nitrates in beetroot.

The results of the study demonstrated that dietary nitrate has a range of beneficial effects on the blood vessels, including lowering blood pressure, inhibiting platelet aggregation and improving the ability to perform exercises, whether for healthy individuals or patients suffering from peripheral arterial disease.
The study cited that “traditional Japanese diets and countries around the Mediterranean are generally healthy, and they are associated with a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease and longevity without suffering from disease.”
The study attributed the reason to the fact that the Japanese and Mediterranean diets share many similarities in that both are rich in fruits, vegetables and fish and little red meat. The main beneficial common content is probably the high dietary nitrate content.
The study showed that red beetroot extract or juice has protective effects against various cancer cells, such as prostate, breast, liver, lung, esophageal and skin cancer.
The researchers stated, “The positive benefits of beet juice are generally attributed to betanin, the main component of beta-sanin, a powerful antioxidant.
Plus, “beetroot is an especially safe source of dietary nitrate.”

Other studies have found that increasing nitric oxide in the diet by consuming foods rich in nitrates such as beetroot juice offers a therapeutic opportunity to reduce cardiovascular decline and improve metabolism and cognitive cognition, which is commonly seen as people age.
