“Korean and Japanese Foreign Ministers Meet at G7 Summit to Cooperate on Global Issues”

Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi held a meeting of foreign ministers from Korea and Japan on the 20th on the occasion of the G7 summit held in Hiroshima, and agreed to cooperate on global issues.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this meeting is the sixth since the inauguration of the Yoon Seok-yeol government in May of last year, and the first foreign ministers’ meeting between Korea and Japan held in the second year of the presidency.

The Ministers of the two countries welcomed the complete restoration of shuttle diplomacy between the heads of state of the two countries after 12 years and appreciated the vitalization of intergovernmental consultative bodies in various fields, including diplomacy, security and economic security.

In addition, major pending issues and mutual interests between Korea and Japan were extensively discussed.

In addition, they shared the same view on the need to strengthen cooperation and cooperation between Korea and Japan, and between Korea and the U.S. and Japan, regarding severe international situations such as the escalating North Korean nuclear threat, the Ukraine crisis, and the global supply chain crisis, as well as regional and global pending issues.

The two ministers agreed to communicate closely and swiftly implement follow-up measures for the Korea-Japan summit in order to expand the momentum for improving bilateral relations to various fields, including diplomacy and security, economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
