Korean BTS wins American Music Awards

South Korean pop group BTS has won Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards.

The ceremony was held, Sunday, in Los Angeles, and is the largest award in the world awarded by public vote.

BTS beat rivals Ariana Grande, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.

BTS and Swift were among the early winners of the live-streamed party hosted by rapper Cardi B.

The band also won the title of Favorite Pop Group.

BTS singer Kim Nam-joon said, “We are a young boy group from Korea who love music and all we want to do is spread positive emotions.”

BTS joined Coldplay on stage to perform “My Universe” in the post-pandemic K-pop group’s return to live performances.

The song “Butter” topped the US Billboard charts for 10 weeks this summer.

Swift, who did not attend Sunday’s concert, won the title of best artist for the sixth time last year, setting a record.

Swift won Best Female Artist and Best Pop Album for her album “Evermore” (Forever).

“I am very fortunate to have you in your life, and to have you in my life,” Swift told fans in a speech she delivered on receiving the award via video.
