During Thursday afternoon and evening, Tromsø municipality has registered eight new people infected with Covid-19. In addition, two people living in Oslo, who were in Tromsø this weekend, tested positive on Thursday.
The municipality writes in a press release. Several of the infected have had many close contacts during the time they have been infected, so a large number of people are now quarantined. Many of these have been tested, and testing will continue on Friday.
– There is now a large infection tracking work in progress. We have invested extra resources in this work and in testing. The work will continue throughout the evening and as far as it is appropriate tonight. We have a situation with an ongoing outbreak, where several of those who have tested positive have had many close contacts. We must therefore expect new positive test results, says subject leader at the corona center in Tromsø, Øivind Benjaminsen in the press release.
– Testing yourself is the key to gaining control of the infection situation. The new rapid tests enable us to get started more quickly with infection detection work; we earn a whole day. All tests tonight, happen with quick tests so we get quick answers. Seven of the eight who have tested positive today have taken quick tests, says Øivind Benjaminsen further.
Benjaminsen encourages everyone who has cold symptoms to contact the corona telephone to Tromsø municipality to order a test. Call the corona telephone on 469 078 99. Opening hours are every day between 08:30 and 22:00.
An employee at Pastafabrikken has tested positive. Therefore, the municipality has asked them to close and wash down.
– We ask everyone who has been to Pastafabrikken from and including Monday 22 February and up to and including Thursday 25 February, to pay extra attention to symptoms. If you have symptoms of a cold or respiratory problems, we ask that you contact the corona telephone to get tested, says Øivind Benjaminsen.
Infection by care service
In addition, an employee at the care service on Kvaløya tested positive. There, an employee and two service recipients have been quarantined. There is no suspicion of further infection here.
– We are now mapping the movement pattern of the infected and their close contacts. This is a large and demanding work, to which we will have more answers tomorrow early. Tonight we can not say anything for sure about the source of the infection, says Øivind Benjaminsen.
