The heavy rain that continues for hours has spread fear in the hilly areas of Kottayam district. Heavy rain, wind and landslides have been reported in many parts of the district including Eratupetta and Munnilav.
A team from Kanjirapalli Fire Rescue Station has been dispatched to the Mundakkayam Causeway due to the high water level. Three youths who were trapped on the bridge at Kanjirapalli Vandampatal were rescued by the fire rescue team who arrived as per the information given by the locals. Munnilav, Mankomp, Kalathookadav, Mundakkaparam and Kaduvamuzhi are flooded in Eratupetta. Locals say that if the rains continue in the same way, the water will flood in Eratupetta itself at night.
Munnilav, Melukavu, Talanad and Theikoi areas are experiencing heavy rains and large mountain floods, Adv. Shawn George informed. Munnilav, Talanad and Thikoi regions are experiencing heavy rains. In Meenach, the district collector has directed various departments to be vigilant in village panchayats under Kanjirapalli taluk.
Collector directed to start functioning of control room in all local government bodies. Mic announcements will be made in emergency situations in landslide and flood areas. All departments have been directed to make necessary preparations to open relief centers and shift people to safer places.
