Do you know Kroger? This revolutionary home test would allow the population to test themselves more easily and to isolate themselves in the event of a positive result for Covid-19

Kroger, the American retail giant just announced on social media that it is about to market a test against Covid-19. “This will be the first connected Covid-19 antigen rapid test”, specifies the giant on Twitter.

The latter can be done at home or in any other place. To do this, all you need is a smartphone in order to obtain the test result. The prototype has just been submitted to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the United States Food and Drug Administration, to obtain approval for its marketing.

To do this, patients must take a nasal swab. Once this sample has been taken, the person simply has to put it in a liquid solution for one minute, then place a drop on a test strip provided, similar to the pregnancy test.

The result will appear after a few seconds. Last essential step, confirmation of the result via the smartphone. Indeed, after 15 minutes, patients will have to scan the strip via the dedicated application so that the integrated artificial intelligence can validate the diagnosis.

This will allow people who take the test to share the result with public health agencies. The “connected” home test ensures a “93% positive agreement and 99% negative agreement compared to PCR tests”,selon Kroger Health.

Despite its proven effectiveness, this test cannot replace a PCR sample performed by professionals and an analysis performed in the laboratory. On the other hand, it could push people to diagnose themselves more often and to self-isolate. in the event of a positive Covid-19 result, thus reducing the risk of contamination.
