In Los Angeles, Trayce Thompson hit three home runs and Clayton Kershaw outplayed an old rival as the Los Angeles Dodgers routed the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-1.
Thompson hit a grand slam in his first at-bat of the season and drove in eight runs for Los Angeles, which beat the Diamondbacks for the 16th time in their last 22 meetings. JD MartÃnez hit his first home run in a Dodgers uniform.
In the 12th meeting between left-handers Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner, the Los Angeles star got the best of it with a six-inning standout. The previous 11 meetings came when Bumgarner was a member of the San Francisco Giants.
Kershaw (1-0) gave up one run and four hits, walks and nine strikeouts in a 76-pitch pitch that marked his first start of 2023.
Bumgarner (0-1) allowed five runs and four hits in four innings on 85 pitches. He gave away four tickets and got a couple of strikeouts.
