Lady Gaga to sing at Biden’s nomination: why was she chosen?

LADY GAGA. Singer Lady Gaga will sing for Joe Biden’s nomination at the White House on Wednesday, January 20, alongside Jenifer Lopez.

[Mis à jour le 14 janvier 2021 à 16h37] It is a tradition in the United States: the American anthem is taken up by an artist during the inauguration of a new president. It’s official, it’s Lady Gaga who will sing to celebrate the arrival of Joe Biden at the White House, Wednesday January 20, announces the American site Variety. An exercise that she knows well, since she had already sung the song The Star-Spangled Banner during the Super Bowl of 2016. And the pop star will not be alone, since Jennifer Lopez will also sing during the ceremony.

And the choice of Lady Gaga is obviously not trivial: the interpreter of Pokerface was one of the most fervent supporters of the candidacy of the Democratic candidate against Donald Trump, throughout his campaign. Along with her career, the singer has always been committed to many causes, including the defense of the LGBT community, the fight against AIDS or access to education. She had already displayed alongside Joe Biden in 2016, then vice-president, in the fight against sexual assault in academia.

The events of last week in Washington, with the invasion of Capitol Hill by pro-Trump activists, will have only reinforced his aversion to the outgoing president, evidenced by his vindictive messages on Twitter. Singing for the nomination of Joe Biden is therefore only a continuation of Lady Gaga’s commitment.
