America’s largest water reservoir becomes a horror lake. Due to the severe drought, there is hardly any water left in Lake Mead near the glamor city of Las Vegas. That’s why decades-old finds come to light – including corpses.
A week after the find a corpse at least 40 years old in a barrel tourists have now come across human remains again. According to a report by the television station KLAS-TV, the two sisters Lindsay and Lynette Melvin came across a skull on a paddle boat tour. It was half sticking out of the mud.
More corpses likely to be found
When they kicked the dried sand aside with their foot, they came across more bones, Lindsay Melvin told KLAS-TV.
The two sisters photographed the gruesome find, put the pictures on Instagram and then alerted the authorities. According to the National Park Service, these are indeed human bones, but they do not assume a murder.
A Las Vegas police spokesman said the remains were being examined by coroners. “We believe that more bodies are likely to be found,” said the spokesman.
Water level the lowest it has been in 51 years
About a week earlier, boaters had discovered a barrel with a corpse. According to preliminary findings by the medical examiner, the dead man was shot in the mid-1970s and then sunk. The police are assuming a mafia murder. This dominated casinos in Las Vegas between the 1940s and 1980s.
Lake Mead’s water level is at its lowest level in 51 years due to the ongoing drought. The lake supplies millions of people with drinking water. (zis)
