“It’s incredible!” exclaims a witness in the sequence transmitted by a reader from Valais. The most impressive phenomenon was captured above Evolène (VS), on the slope of the Petite Dent de Veisivi which overlooks the Ferpècle valley.

According to “Le Nouvelliste”, these landslides have been occurring regularly in the area for nearly a month. Between 5,000 and 10,000 cubic meters of rock have thus already been detached from the mountain.

The main cause of these rock falls is “the natural degradation of the rocky massif which is extremely fractured”, explains a specialist at daily valaisan, adding that the phenomenon could be accentuated by “the presence of water released by the melting of permafrost”.

Local authorities are closely monitoring these landslides, reports “Le Nouvelliste”, but no housing or other infrastructure is threatened.
