Defendant and his lawyer reported to the Nyon court on Monday during the trial of the Zadis, wearing shorts and Nike Air Jordans respectively. The duo was Thursday at the District Court of Lausanne, where the atmosphere was more solemn and the outfits more conventional. The 20-year-old climate activist is charged with damage to property and obstruction of performing an official act. Encouraged by the President of the Court and his defence, he wishes to find an arrangement with the Société Générale d’Affichage (SGA), victim of a series of depredations of its panels in 2021.

“It’s too late”

After a first suspension of hearing to allow the parties to discuss, after consultation with the boss of the company, the lawyer of the SGA declined the offer of 800 francs made by the accused. “It’s too late. It was necessary to propose before the day of hearing”, swept Me Hervé Dutoit. But, far from being discouraged, the President of the Court continued to encourage the parties to “take a step towards each other”. In particular, she reminded the accused that if he lost the trial, compared to the offer he made, the bill would be “much more salty”. The young man then offered compensation of 1,400 francs, a letter of apology and, more comically, his services to clean the soiled billboards.

The small yes of the lawyer of the SGA

After having expressed his reluctance vis-à-vis this young person whose depredations committed are a “political gesture”, the lawyer for the civil party accepted with a small yes that the trial be suspended to open the way to negotiations. .

University degree in hand, the young defendant wants to avoid an entry in his criminal record. At the Tribunal, he was supported by his parents and a dozen young climate activists. The trial is expected to resume soon.
