Li Xuejing, an associate professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong, is suspected of defrauding a housing allowance of 720,000 yuan. This morning (24th), the case was arraigned in the Eastern District Magistrates’ Court. He was released on bail of 50,000 yuan pending trial, during which time he was not allowed to leave Hong Kong and interfere with prosecution witnesses. The prosecution alleges that one of the witnesses had a close professional relationship with the accused.

The charge alleges that the 54-year-old defendant, Li Xuejing, is suspected of falsely claiming to rent a unit in Kowloon District from 2019 to 2021, and applying to the university for reimbursement of rent, rates and management fees exceeding 720,000 yuan. The ICAC received a complaint earlier and found that the defendant had been living with his parents in another property in the New Territories during the incident. As for the unit receiving the allowance, another friend of the defendant lived alone, which did not meet the requirements for reimbursement of the allowance.
