Gain 2 billion dollars in the Powerball last year changed the life of Edwin Castrowho left his humble apartment in Altadena, where he lived before becoming the historic winner of the most famous lottery in the United States, to move to Hollywood Hillsan exclusive neighborhood in California.
However, not everything is joy these days for him, given that he received a lawsuit alleging that the ticket was stolen.
A pair of lawyers arrived on April 25 at the lucky billionaire’s mansion, where amenities include seven bedrooms, an infinity pool and spa, and were greeted by a man in his 50s who initially tried to dodge the notificationas reported by the newspaper The Sun.
“The subject said that we were entertaining the wrong Edwin Castro“, they told the newspapers. “I advised the subject to contact the attorney if he had any questions or concerns,” they added.
Finally, a proof of delivery was presented on May 17which said that a man received the documentsthus giving effect to the official notice.
The lawsuit against Castro, which was first filed earlier this year, claims that he is not the legitimate winnersince the plaintiff jose rivera, bought the ticket and it was soon stolen.
Rivera claims he was the one who bought the valuable ticket at an Altadena gas station the day before the Nov. 7 drawing, which was worth a record prize of just over $2 billion in Powerball.
According to what you posted New York Post, Rivera claimed that he was mugged by a man named “Reggie” that same day.who has since been identified as Urachi F. Romero and he appears as a co-defendant in the case being handled by the Superior Court of Alhambra. However, according to reports, the complaint does not explain the circumstances of the alleged theftor how Romero’s ticket could have gotten to Castro.
The plaintiff believes that the evidence is found in surveillance footage taken at Joe’s Service Center station and claims it proves he was the one who bought the historic ticket.
“In an effort to reach a prompt resolution of this matter involving the rightful owner of the $2 billion Powerball winning ticket, our client, jose riveraagain asks the lottery to make available for our review all videos that evidence the purchase of the winning ticket,” says a letter sent to the California lottery by Rivera’s legal team.
The winner used the money to buy two billion dollar houses, one of which is a 13,500-square-foot mansion that includes a game room, wine cellar, movie theater, bar, pool, spa, and gym with hot and cold water. Castro also bought a $250,000 white Porsche.
To be able to play Powerball you only need two US dollars, the cost of each of its games. Afterwards, you have to choose five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls; then choose a number between 1 and 26 for red.
If the player is undecided on which numbers to select, they can let the lottery terminal generate a random combination.
To win the Powerball jackpot, all six numbers in that combination have to match the results. However, with a single hit you also win, although the more numbers you get, the greater the reward.
