Legislative 2022 live – Macron’s speech: a “Trump sketch” for Mélenchon; “it smells of panic on board” according to Roussel

Socialist dissidents opposed to Nupes were swept away in the first round of legislative elections despite the support of the party’s “elephants”

Opposed for ideological reasons to the agreement of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), or believing that they should have been invested because they were better established locally, these dissidents maintained their candidacy against the suitors of the Nupes, bringing together La France insoumise, the Socialist Party, Europe Ecologie-Les Verts, the Communist Party and Génération.s. But “only three qualified”says the PS, which boasts for its part of having 59 of its 70 candidates invested by the Nupes in the second round.

For Olivier Faure, considered by his opponents as the gravedigger of the party, the Nupes “demonstrated its ability to create a form of enthusiasm on the left” et “Valid” its union strategy. ” The results are in “he judged Monday on France 2.

Main exception, the outgoing deputy of Pyrénées-Atlantiques David Habib, without a majority candidate against him, is in the lead in his constituency, ahead of Nupes candidate Jean-François Baby. In Ariège, Laurent Panifous threatens the outgoing deputy Nupes-LFI Michel Larive. And in the Lot, Christophe Proença, will face in a triangular the Nupes-LFI candidates Thierry Grossmy and Ensemble-Renaissance Huguette Tiegna.

A few other candidates, whom the PS does not consider as dissidents because they no longer have their party card, are doing well, like Bertrand Petit in Pas-de-Calais, which faces an RN candidate; Where David Taupiac in the Gerswho went on leave from the PS but whom the Party claims to support, facing a majority candidate.

Elsewhere it is the carnage: the outgoing deputy Jérôme Lambert is swept away in Charente. The Seven Dissenters of the Herault, defended by the socialist mayor of Montpellier Christophe Delafosse, are beaten. There are also no longer any dissidents in Dordogne, Seine-Maritime, Meuse, Côtes d’Armor or Pyrénées-Orientales, underlines Sébastien Vincini, national secretary of the PS, who regrets that, in certain constituencies, these candidacies “contributed to dividing the left and prevented a Nupes candidate from being in the second round”often for the benefit of the RN-Ensemble duel.

For Corinne Narassiguin, number 2 of the PS, the result of the first round “marks the failure of those who had campaigned on the theme ”Nupes is not my left”. They are seen as dividers”. An allusion to Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region hostile to the union, who activated herself on the ground to support the dissidents. On Sunday evening, Ms. Delga called “block far-right candidates by voting for the best-placed candidate, regardless of their label”.

More broadly, it is the “elephants” of the PS refractory to Nupes, who are weakened. The candidates supported by ex-president François Hollande, including Annick Taysse in his stronghold of Corrèzewere swept away, as were most of those whom former Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve had come to help, and the four dissidents supported by the mayor of Le Mans Stéphane Le Foll in Sarthe.

Even Lamia El Aaraje, supported by former Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, suffered a disappointing 17.5% in Paris, which leaves him little chance in the second round against the candidate of Nupesthe “rebellious” Danielle Simonnet (48%).

Philippe Doucet, member of the minority current of the PS opposed to the Nupes, recognizes that “The dynamic of the gathering is strong” and that the local presence of certain dissidents “didn’t play much”. “The legislative elections have become totally presidential”, he concludes. But he warns: “We will see on Sunday if the 2nd round becomes an anti-Mélenchon referendum, and how many deputies the PS will have”.
